Popular Locations and Dining
Sea Pines: The area at the end of the island is called Sea Pines. The park area ( Harbour Town) is fun to walk around in, with lots of huge boats and entertainment most evenings.
There are also lots of good restaurants in the area. The kids will love the performances by Greg Russell under the big Oak Tree—check the paper for times and dates.
Shelter Cove: Fireworks every Tuesday night during the summer, plus entertainment most nights. Plenty of shopping and restaurants in this area to fill your evening.
Restaurants: there are over 100 restaurants in the area, from sports bars to elegant dining. Casual attire is generally acceptable in most establishments, and many are appropriate for children.
Shopping: From outlet malls to boutique shops, Hilton Head and the surrounding communities have it all. You won’t go home empty handed!

Island Experiences
Nature Walks: If you want to find out something about the beach, birds, animals and fauna indigenous to the area, the Museum of Hilton Head offers very interesting beach walks. I have tried this twice with kids though, and found that they were bored--I think it is best for adults.
Dolphin Cruise: We took a family cruise called ‘Kid’s Cruise (363-2900) which was wonderful for children. It offered hand’s on experience in shrimping, crabbing, fishing for sharks, as well as the standard dolphins.
Horseback Riding: Our favorite is Sea Horse Farms, where you can ride along the beach. Bring a camera along, and they will take pictures of you. (843-681-7746). They book up very early—make reservations before the week of your arrival.
Canoeing: Palmetto Dunes has it’s own lagoon system. Rent a canoe from the PD Watersport Center and enjoy a peaceful one or two hour trip among the abundant waterfowl and other animals that frequent this area. Watch for alligators!

For Kids
Putt-Putt: We like Adventure Cove best, because there are activities to entertain all ages. They have 2 courses, a driving range, batting cages, video arcade, a play area for little kids, and Subway/pizza hut food stand inside. It gets crowded though—go early or be prepared to wait.
Bike rides: Bike rental is cheap and convenient, and there are bike paths from one end of the island to the other, as well as in each plantation. During the summer, you can ride the golf course cart paths in the evening.
